As a middle child, Astariel was considered a bit of an oddity. Like a youth trapped in his rebel teen years, he acts a bit punkish, but of course remains about as prestigious and noble as a member of the Aeribors would. He's distant from his parents, perhaps because in the past they fawned over the eldest, being the heir to the family name, or the youngest, being the precious baby of the family. He might have been a little envious of the affection, but never contemptuous of it, since it granted him freedom to do what he wanted most of the time.
During his high school years, he was essentially a delinquent, albeit not the glaringly bad kind who went astray. Still bound by the values instilled by his parents, while his older brother woukd abstain from conflict to find the best solution to a problem, Astariel would be the one to pick fights, sometimes on his siblings' behalves. Though he teases them often and hardly expresses his fondness, he is their steadfast ally and doesn't hesitate to help his family when they need it. As the oldest, Eckzekiel takes the brunt of his heckling and he pesters him often, though at the same time the brotherly duo can get into plenty of wild hijinks.
It's quite a mystery how Astariel's interests turned to coordinating while he attended Atlaea University, considering his fiery disposition and the fact that he started out as a battling major. He's confessed that there was no real reason for the change, but the most widely-accepted explanation at the time was that someone close - probably a lover - managed to convince him to do it. While he initially used perform on the stage in the past, he later preferred to be working behind the scenes and watching shows instead.
He deliberated for a time before deciding to become an instructor, taking odd jobs here and there instead. As a result, he's somewhat new to the teaching business, and while Astariel is not the most socially-inclined person around, still acts enough like a student to be able to relate to many rather well.
