▸ Raphael is a kind soul and would actually be a rather social person, if it weren't for his crippling anxiety. He doesn't speak very well and it gets even worse when he's flustered, and thus meeting new people can be rough. He isn't so much antisocial or introverted as just plain shy.
▸ He's overwhelmingly a creature of habit. He starts his mornings with a certain ritual, walks down the same routes every day, has carefully allotted times for reading and studying, has meticulously planned pretty much every aspect of his life. He's aware on an intellectual level that it won't always work, of course, and he'll tolerate change to some extent, but major interruptions make him incredibly uncomfortable.
▸ Though Raphael doesn't do amazing in school he is in fact rather intelligent. He works very hard, but he gets worked up easily and doesn't test well in the slightest.
▸ His bookish nature and complete disinclination to defend himself made him a prime target for bullying as a kid, but rather than let it get to him he just handed over his lunch money and prayed they didn't give him a second glance. It wasn't much better at home, as he was the younger of two children and his elder sibling often pushed him around. It didn't make him eager to make friends.
