Welcome to modern day Atlaea; if you're here, it means you have the powers of a pokemon inside of you. We advise that you apply to the university and start your training in one of four subjects: battling, coordinating, healing, or pokemon history and begin your journey towards becoming the very best like no one ever was!
Hiruka basically lived in the student hangouts, mostly because she lived in the kitchen there, or so it seemed. Preferring a home cooked meal any day, she tended to spend a lot of time there in order to have her three square meals a day. Of course, she also sometimes liked to force food on people who looked like they could use it. And, after making some toasted warm cookies, she felt like sharing was a good idea...But she couldn't help feeling that the room was unusually quiet.
Sharing cookies was fun, but it was hard to figure out who could use one when the words 'I'm getting hungry' weren't being shouted by random people in the room. It wasn't like she could read minds, either- although she honestly wanted to learn how, if she could. But, she wasn't psychic. She just had amazingly useful vine-like hair.
But then, the image of a long-haired guy caught her attention. He was sitting in a corner with a book. A book! Books went well with snacks, right? At least to Hiruka, books were a lot easier to read if you had a lot of sugar keeping you awake [since, naturally, she was too much of a ball of energy to just sit and read many times]. Surely he'd try it, right?
Wandering over with a cheerful grin, she held out the plate of cookies rather abruptly at his side. "Hey, want a cookie to go with the book? A good book goes with a good snack, don't you think?"
You know, as introverted as he was, he did enjoy the student hangout. At least, when it wasn't incredibly crowded which fortunately was the case today. Save for a couple of people here and there who were mostly keeping to themselves as well. Overall, it was a decent place to just sit back and read a good book. It was easier than going home where he'd get pressured or to his dorm where he'd only stress about homework and projects to be taken care of. He deserved the chance to enjoy some quiet time to himself, right? Or maybe he was just asking too much...
He certainly wasn't oblivious to the smell, unable to deny some form of curiosity, but not curious enough to find out what it was. At the very least, he could make out it was sweet which wasn't something he was particularly interested in, whether that was because of parent's influence or his own preference was to be decided, but either way he decided to ignore it, focusing on the letters on the page he was currently reading to the point he became completely unaware of his surroundings.
So engrossed in his book, he didn't even realize someone had approached till a platter of cookies was held out to him with a very cheery and unsuspected voice coming out of nowhere. To say he was a little surprised was putting it lightly. He'd nearly jumped out of his skin, setting his book down as he rested his hand on his heart, chuckling nervously as he immediately became embarrassed. "Heh...You scared me..." he smiled sheepishly, stating the obvious. This is what he got for letting his guard down.
Once he regained his composure, Drew returned his gaze to the plate of cookies that nearly gave him a heart attack. Part of him wanted to politely decline the offer, but looking up to the girl holding them, he swallowed the words before they could even surface. She seemed so eager to share her obviously home baked cookies and he didn't want to upset her. So with only a second of hesitance, he gave a nod. "I suppose so." he agreed. "Sure. I'll take one." he finished with a kind smile, purposely trying to find the smallest of the bunch.
She couldn't tell just how much she'd scared the poor guy, but the way the male put his hand to his chest certainly at least indicated some sense of shock- and since Hiruka had no abilities with electricity, it was obviously not that. So, surprise was the next best assumption- especially when he even noted he had been startled. "Sorry for scaring you then. I should've found a better way to call out to you, I guess."
Blissfully unaware that he had even thought of saying no, she simply gazed upon him as he took the smaller cookie available, as if waiting for him to take a bite. She was quite pleased, after all, that he'd accepted one. Sharing food was a great way of getting along, especially when you tended to make too much anyway. "I hope you'll like it. I'm pretty proud of my cooking!"
Proud she was. It was likely one of the only girly things about the spunky student, whose green hair was rather haphazard on her head beneath her beloved straw hat. She didn't wear any make-up, and her muscle tone was a bit high for a girl of the 'girly' nature. Even her chirping voice was a bit far from feminine- sure, it was a bit on the higher end of the scale, but it had too much energy to seem natural. Yet somehow, she'd managed to get her boyishly calloused hands into cooking and knitting, things that in the past were deemed girl's activities.
At least she had some pride in being a girl, one could assume. "Ah...If it's not to your taste, I can make you something else instead. I'm always happy to cook for someone, so if you're ever hungry and I'm around, I can give it a try."
"No, no. It's fine, I promise." he shook off her apology, deeming it was really no ones fault. Besides, had he been paying more attention, he wouldn't have reacted so poorly. So if anyone was to blame, he decided it was him. Of course, he didn't bother to bring that up, simply wanting to drop the subject all together before his face would turn red.
Having found the proper cookie, which was still not as small as he'd have liked, he examined it for a second or so, as if the sweet was completely foreign to him, before he noticed she was still there, watching. It was only slightly creepy and he wasn't all that confident in the sweet anymore (not that he was really to begin with). This was probably laced with something, knowing his luck. But before he could let his mind wander too far, she spoke once more, calming his nerves somewhat and pulling another soft smile from him. Of course that just meant he had to eat it now didn't it? Curse his good manners. Upon realizing this, he brought the cookie to his mouth, taking a generous enough bite so as not to raise any questions. It didn't work too well apparently as she'd already raised concern about not being good.
Quick to get her off that silly train of thought, he swallowed the mouthful of cookie before grinning. "No! It tastes great. I can understand why you take pride in cooking." he explained. Yes, it certainly wasn't all that bad. Not exactly to his tastes as he didn't have much of a sweet tooth, but definitely something he could see himself eating every once in a while... Maybe. This encounter, however, was lasting far longer than he'd anticipated. He wasn't entirely sure how to feel about that fact.
"I'll be sure to look for you next time I'm hungry." he laughed, thinking it shouldn't be all that difficult since they shared both the hair color and an appreciation for hats it would seem. With that said though, he took another bite of the cookie absently and let his eyes return to his book, hoping that perhaps that would be the end of it. She was a very nice girl, no doubt about it, but their energies didn't at all match up and he found himself growing surprisingly exhausted just trying to keep up with her.

It was an unfortunate fact that Hiruka was rather dumb when it came to the feelings of others. She was empathetic in the sense she wanted to help anyone she could, but she could never really tell if she was a bother- nope, not unless someone said it to her face. Which, while it would bother her, would just make her more keen to want to help them. After all, that's the best honesty in the world right there, in her mind.
Unfortunately, the guy didn't make it clear with his words that she was bugging him. Hearing that her taking time from him to talk was fine, that meant it was. Because he hadn't made a lie yet to push her away, she was so far certain he was at least trustworthy enough for now to think of as family. If he did something to change that, it'd take a while for her to notice.
Since she deemed him honest, that meant his words about the food was genuine, too. "I'm glad you like it! You really had me worried that you hated it for a minute." Like and hate were so close together that the line was rather fine in Hiruka's mind. It was clear just from her words that her black and white nature didn't just sit with people. She either 'loved' a food, or 'hated' it. Nothing was safe when it came to her rather strict judgement.
"Alrighty, glad to hear it! It's fun to cook for others, so I'm looking forward to it. Ah...I'm Hiruka by the way. Let's get along well from now one, okay?"
Whether she understood her own words of course was another story, but she was being honest when she noted it. Getting along was the best she could do- until something made her certain just how much she trusted this person, or if she had to start avoiding him for her own safety. "Nice to meet you."
He felt relieved he took the cookie at the very least, after she'd admitted her concern. What might she have done if he had rejected the offer? He couldn't imagine, nor did he want to know. Of course, now he really had to sell it and eat the whole thing, something that wasn't necessarily bad, but something that would be taken as such if his parents caught on that he'd been snacking. He had to remain in a state of utmost perfection, after all. That meant a strict diet and no breaks from it. But what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them, he supposed. With that in mind, he set on finishing the cookie before she'd get any sort of doubts, finding the sweet taste in his mouth almost overwhelming.
Did this mean she was going to be cooking for him from now on? Well he did sort of walk into it didn't he? Could be worse, he supposed, at least she was nice. "Hiruka.." he repeated, making a mental note of the name before nodding. "I'm Andrew. It's a pleasure." he returned with another one of his award winning smiles. "I'd like that." he agreed. He'd much rather make friends than enemies anyway, even if he was a bit socially awkward.

His smile merely got her smiling too- though, she did hope he liked it, and was hoping he'd mention something. When he didn't, she assumed it was either plain or he just didn't think to say anything- because you'd tell someone if you hated the food they made, right? It was common courtesy to be honest. Or at least, Hiruka assumed so. "Andrew huh? That's a nice name. I'll definitely remember it!" Promising meant it was true- even if part of her was unsure she could do so. Alas, Andrew wasn't that hard a name to recall. She could do it! Or...She hoped so.
"Was the cookie okay? You can be honest. I prefer honest people anyway. If it's too sweet or too plain, I want to know. Otherwise I can't improve my cooking. And that just won't do!" Improving was important- she wanted to be a great chef along with being a healer, so that she could feed those in pain the foods that could help them, and not just tell them what to eat in the future. "See...I'm a healing major. I want to be able to cook and make tasty things that will both make people smile and feel better. Home made food is always better than something store-bought both in health and taste, or I'd like to think...But I need honest opinions to know if it's really so. Please don't go easy on me, okay?"
Jumping upon her little tangent, she realized she had yet another question. "Oh! What are you studying, anyway? Maybe I'll be able to help you someday too. Like you're helping me now!"
The fact she appeared to not have even known him slightly already was a bit surprising. Not that he was big headed, of course, but due to the Fay family's popularity, he would have thought everyone at least knew his name. To be honest though, he kind of liked it. Being unknown, even for a short while, was pretty comfortable. Well.. as comfortable as he could be in this situation as the girl continued to linger and he couldn't find it in his heart to tell her to leave (nor did he really have the right since this was a public area).
He certainly felt like he needed a drink to wash down that treat, the sweetness in his mouth almost becoming sickening each time he swallowed. Is this why people liked sweets so much? Perhaps if he had some tea with it, it might have not been as bad, but if he ever were to have another experience with a cookie, he'd definitely make sure to have some sort of beverage near by. Was that the polite way of saying it though? He wasn't entirely sure. "Well... Admittedly I don't have sweets often so I can't really gauge it properly since I don't have much experience." he began, making sure that if his following words were accidentally rude, she could brush it off since he literally had no idea what he was talking about. "It tastes fine, honest. It's just a bit too sweet, for me at least." Surely not to harsh, right? Simple and to the point! But for a less negative critique, he decided to add, "It's really soft though, easy to bite into. Probably really good if you want to use it for healing." he added, admittedly finding her plans for the future interesting. Weren't healers usually health nuts when it came to healthy foods? He was certain plenty of people would prefer sweets to nasty medicines anyway.
Her next question came as a surprise though and Andrew was about to admit he was mostly focused on battling, a line that could certainly use a healer he was sure. But since that was a secret held close, he corrected himself before the words came out. "Oh... Uh, I'm a coordination major." he answered, a bit sheepishly. Back when he was younger, the concept of beauty and contests certainly was appealing, especially with his twin involved, but now that he was getting older and finding a new motivation in life, he almost found it embarrassing. It didn't help that he was teased quite a bit by the more macho men and never taken seriously when it even came to battling. But, it was his burden to bear. "I suppose if I ever make a wrong move and take a nasty tumble, I could come crawling to you."
"Well...I didn't think of using this for a health supplement or anything, but I could probably add in some good herbs that promote healing. But then it might not taste right. This is just meant to be tasty." She giggled a bit, smiling as he answered her with extra sugar-coated honesty- but, he was being honest, so she'd let it slide. "You don't have to struggle. You can just say next time that you're not as big on sweets. I'm a big girl, I can handle it!"
Okay, so actually, she wasn't that big. In fact, she was fairly small, physically speaking. Still, she was already in college- so, she hoped people could treat her that way, especially on campus. Because why would a ten year old be at such an advance level of learning? Hiruka was no genius, but she knew she looked like a little kid. It probably helped she was often mistaken for one, though.
"A coordination major huh? Well, depending on the type of coordinating you plan to work on, some sweets will be really good! They say sweets bring out cuteness in people. Or at least, I was told that's why little kids are cute- since they eat a lot of sweets. But...I'll definitely be here if you get hurt. I know a lot about herbs and stuff, but I'll try to make something tasty to take. What kind of flavor do you like? You don't like sweet things so much but...Do you like salty? Or spicy? Though...I can't help with spicy." Just thinking about spicy things made her feel like faking a barf- because spicy things were horrible to her stomach, which was otherwise made of iron. She could already feel it squeezing itself just thinking about it.
He wasn't big on sweets or medical practices so most of what was said went over his head, but he simply nodded and listened, something he was pretty good at, being as soft spoken as he was. Of course, being called out on his sugarcoating did manage to get a response out of him, the male rubbing the back of his head as he gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry." he offered, not wanting her to get the wrong idea. It wasn't so much that he didn't think she couldn't handle it, he just didn't like upsetting people, being far too much a people-pleaser. "I'll keep that in mind next time." If there was a next time, he'd try to be a bit more honest. Keyword being try.
Ah yes, he'd recalled lessons regarding the effects of flavors. He was rather skeptical of course, but he wasn't going to outright reject the idea. What was good for being tough? He'd forgotten but kept it in mind for later studies as it could come in handy. "Uh..." his mind drew a blank when the question of favorites was brought up, the young man at a loss. "I don't think I really have a favorite.." he admitted, brows furrowed slightly as he came to the realization. Was that weird? He wasn't sure. He was never particularly picky, taking whatever his parents allowed. At the very least, he knew sweets weren't in the top category. "I'll have to get back to you on that." he continued, rubbing his chin in deep thought. Just another thing to add to his lists of studies he supposed.
Clearly though, her favorite wasn't spicy which Drew found somewhat interesting, especially her response to the mere mention. "Nothing spicy." he held up his hands in a defensive manner. He wasn't so averse to spicy things, but he knew those weren't his favorite either, so it was no real loss.
