in his earliest memory, marian remembered staring at the snowy playground and wishing that he could step over the invisible boundary between himself and the children that shouted joyfully before his eyes. he lacked the self-confidence to initiate contact. his parents constantly chided him for not attempting to step out of his comfort zone; however, he preferred to spend his time with puzzles and the miniature musical instruments that his uncle purchased. music comforted him and eased the burden of finding and utilizing the correct words to express himself. even at his young age, music became his crutch and lifeline during the troubling moments in his life. he tried not to complain because he figured that his past was all roses and sunshine compared to the people that he spotted on the street.
and to be honest, marian’s complaints revolved around his parents lack of spare time and the disapproving looks that they cast him whenever they spotted him. they wanted him to pursue a history degree or seek out full time employment, for they could not see the beauty in the music that he created or the objects that he managed to rebuild and improve. marian suffered through their disapproval with a faint smile while hiding behind a mask of formality and exaggerated seriousness. he felt stifled by them and wanted to retreat to the safety of his bedroom, which was filled with musical instruments and spare parts. it seemed inconceivable to walk away from his interests to the ambipom, especially when he managed to gain friends due to a mutual love of music. he refused to conform to his parent’s ideal.
